Please read the following information on adoptions before inquiring about a pet. Thank you!

Please allow at least 24 hours for email response time. Our volunteers are working hard to provide you with the most up-to-date information on each animal. For quicker response, contact the shelter directly at (843) 915-5172 during hours of operation (listed below).

Adoptions:

Adoption is a commitment...think about it seriously and be sure it's right for you.

Information that you will need to provide:

Before you adopt an animal from our shelter, you will need to meet with one of our adoption counselors and complete the adoption approval guidelines. It's very simple...you will need to:

• Complete an adoption application. (Click here to link you to our website for a downloadable application)
• Provide a rental agreement, if applicable.
• Provide vet references. If you do not have a current veterinarian, we can provide a list and make an appointment for you.
• Provide proof of spay/neuter for current pets.
• Provide proof of up to date vaccines for all current pets.
• Answer any questions that the adoption counselor might have.

Adoption Fees: $80

Seniors for Seniors: Any adopter 60 years or older qualifies for a reduced adoption fee of $50. The fee is waived for senior citizens adopting a pet 6yrs of age or older. (Please notify staff if you qualify for this program.)

Adoption Perks

• All dogs or cats adopted from our shelter will be spayed/neutered prior to going to their new home. The only exception is when an animal cannot medically undergo surgery.
• All dogs and cats adopted from our shelter will receive a rabies vaccine.
• Each dog or cat adopted will receive its first set of vaccines prior to going to their new home.
• Each dog or cat will be microchipped at the time of adoption. Microchips are registered in a national database that can be contacted 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Mission:

The Horry County Humane Society will be recognized for providing outstanding care for homeless cats and dogs in the county. Our strengths are in educating the public about pet care and the relief of suffering, rehabilitation, spaying/neutering, and promoting adoption of homeless animals.

Goals:

• Begin operations of the Conway Shelter by 3rd Quarter 2006.

• Promote a positive image about shelter operations within the county.

• Provide Horry County with excellent animal care to homeless dogs and cats.

• Reduce euthanasia rate by significantly increasing the adoption rates and decreasing intake rates.

• Become a "no-kill" facility within 5 years.

• Open an off-site adoption center.

• Provide a long term, cost effective solution to animal care in Horry County.

• Keep costs low and obtain private donations
